3 days in Madrid
Have you already been to Madrid? Well if not, what are you waiting for?
It is Spain's capital, but it is also Movida's capital. You can see all the sights that you want in a three day visit. If you are young you have the spoiled of choice about all hostels that Madrid offers you, but if you prefer a hotel in Madrid, it is really easy to find one perfect for you of the uncountable Madrid hotels.
So, let's start your tour in Madrid!
First day:
Arrive at your Madrid accommodation, catch the underground and stop at Atocha Station. Take your time to visit the old station: inside is like a tropical paradise. Spanish people relax with a news paper and a coffee. Birds fly from peoples palms and there are hundreds of water turtles in the artificial lake. It is the best place to have a rest after your amazing trip. Just in front, Reina Sofia is waiting you: a museum that contains one of the modern paintings, Guernica by Picasso. Visiting Reina Sofia you can admire paintings by Picasso, Dali etc..
If it is a sunny day, there is a perfect opportunity to visit the beautiful botanical garden with a many coloured tulips and a green house for succulents. In the same direction there is the Prado, one of the most important museums in Spain. It is very big, you need a museum map to be sure not to lose yourself, but it is worth the visit. For the evening, and so for your dinner, do not forget that Spanish people eat later than 9 pm therefore restaurants do not serve meals before that hour.
Second day:
After a beautiful breakfast, take a trip to Plaza de Oriente, in the middle of players, street artists and a beautiful fountain all surrounded by a tree labyrinth. From here Almudena Cathedral is very fast arrive to. I suggest you take a visit as it is very nice and you can also go up on the cupola, so the view is fantastic. In front of the Cathedral there is the Palacio Real, this is a wonderful place to visit and will leave you with many amazing memories of Spain.
Walking through the roads of Madrid, you will arrive at Mercado de San Miguel. It is a food shop inside a building, but the characteristic is that happy hour is all day long, with friends, or with colleagues, eating the famous tapas. Tapas are very little helpings of cheese, ham and other Spanish specialities.
Just in front there is the Plaza Mayor: a rectangular square which houses serval little souvenir shops and coffee bars. This area used to be the Royal house.
Continuing on the same street, you will soon arrive at Puerta del Sol. It is a big square, with two fountains, a bear statue (El oso y el madrono) which is symbol for Madrid and the giant neon Tio Pepe. You can finish your beautiful day with...shopping! There are two streets from Puerta del Sol full of shops opened until 9.30 pm.
Third day:
Exhausted from the day before, you can take a rest in Parco del buon Retiro to enjoy the siesta time and take a canoe ride on the artificial lake.
If you like modern architecture you can find something for you here: take the tube to Itercambiador de Plaza de Castilla. Situated here are two twister towers, one in front of the other.
Now that your trip is over it is time to leave your hotel and head back home to share the many memories from Madrid.
